What activities were you involved with as a student?
I ran on the Women’s Cross Country and Track team. As a student-athlete, I was also very involved outside of my sport. I was a student coordinator for the service trip Project Appalachia during my junior year, and I was a participant in the trip during my freshman and sophomore years. I helped co-coordinate a new service trip my senior year called El Otro Lado. I was a La Salle TV producer for all four years of college. In my time, I produced Sportsline and I co-founded LTV News with three other students. LTV News is still being produced today by current students! I also volunteered with various other groups.
How have you remained active or engaged with the University as an alumna since graduation?
Yes, I have tried to give back by speaking to classes and connecting with La Salle students interested in the communication field. I recently became involved with the Mentor/Mentee program.
Why do you want to run for the Alumni Board of Directors?
The Directors help alumni stay connected and that’s at the heart of what I want to do, as well as serve the university in a greater way. My job has moved me around the country multiple times and I have always wanted a way to stay connected to La Salle. In running for the board, I hope to help other alumni who are also looking for ways to get involved and create meaningful opportunities for Explorers to connect, regardless of where life takes them!
Is there any other information you would like to share?
As a former communication major and now journalist, I understand the importance of storytelling. La Salle and their alumni have an important story to tell and by sharing that story, we can promote the mission of the school. My own story begins with my dad. He’s a graduate of La Salle College High School, so I always grew up with an understanding of the Lasallian mission. It was also my dad who encouraged me to consider La Salle when applying for colleges. Then, while in high school, I was recruited to run cross country and track at a few different colleges. But my first ever recruitment letter came from La Salle. I still remember my coach delivering the letter to me while sitting in my high school English class. At that moment, it felt like a sign that this was where I was meant to go. A lot of alumni have stories of what brought them to La Salle, stories of what La Salle meant to them. It’s these stories that connect us. Creating connections is important for members of the board. We need alumni who can promote La Salle’s story and advocate for the future of the university.
