Finding a job or internship takes quality time and energy to ensure a successful end. Preparing yourself prior to starting the internship or job search process will help you stay motivated!

Handshake

Handshake is La Salle’s job and internship search platform that includes positions at locations throughout the Philadelphia region, the United States, and beyond. Logging into Handshake is easy! Simply go to your portal and click on “tools”.

Handshake Tips:

  • Fill out your Handshake profile and add a professional head shot photo
  • Upload your resume. Once approved*, you can apply to any position in Handshake as long as you meet the position’s requirements.
  • Favorite companies so that you can stay up-to-date on the positions that they post!
  • * When you upload a resume to Handshake, it can take up to 3 business days to be reviewed. An upload to the system does not guarantee approval. Once reviewed, you will receive notification of approval or if changes need to be made.

Job Search Strategies

When conducting a job or internship search, you’ll find that there is not just “one right way.” However, the Career Center does have suggestions that can guide you in the direction that works best for you and your goals. View the job search checklist.

30-Second Commercial/Elevator Pitch

When meeting an employer, alumni, or mentor for the first time, it’s best to have a 30-second pitch prepared so speaking to them is easier. This introduction is a brief summary of your class level, major, interests, and skill or experience. To craft your own 30-second pitch, use this outline.

Fraudulent and Scam Jobs

WARNING: Not all jobs are what they seem! When a job seems to good to be true, it most likely is. Receive an email about a job that pays a lot of money for little hours worked? It’s most likely a scam. Read this checklist to protect yourself and your identity.

On-Campus Recruitment/Interviewing (OCR)

Our On-Campus Recruiting (OCR) program brings the jobs and employers to you!  Major corporations, companies, social service/non-profit organizations, and government agencies come to La Salle’s Campus to interview students seeking full-time employment, internships, and co-ops. The OCR interviews take place in the Career Center office, Founders’ Hall – 128. Fall semester interviews are conducted from mid-September to mid-November; Spring semester interviews typically run from early-February through mid-April. Learn more.
