Co-Op
If a student is doing a co-op/internship and will be enrolled in less than 12 credits during that semester, he/she must come to the Financial Aid Office to see how their financial aid may change due to differences in tuition charges and credits.
If a student is enrolled in at least 12 credits during the co-op/internship semester, their financial aid will not change.
Below is the financial aid which can be used during a co-op/internship:
- Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans
- Federal Pell Grant – Pro-rated for number of credits during co-op semester
- Federal Perkins Loan
- Federal Direct PLUS Loan
- PHEAA Grant (must enroll for at least 6 credits to receive a part-time PHEAA grant)
If a student has an outside scholarship, they must get written permission from the organization to use it while attending their co-op/internship.
If the student is enrolled for less than 12 credits during the co-op/internship semester, La Salle University grants and scholarships cannot be used.
If the student will be enrolling in summer classes immediately after the co-op/internship and was ineligible for La Salle funds during the co-op/internship semester, then the student could be eligible for a prorated amount of La Salle financial aid during the summer. The student may be part-time during the summer to be eligible for these awards. If the student elects to use a La Salle scholarship during the summer following the co-op/internship, then the summer would count as a semester towards the 8-semester limit that apply to some La Salle scholarships. Funding for the summer is subject to availability of funds.
Students participating in a co-op/internship must be enrolled for at least 6 credits in order to be eligible for Federal Direct loans.
Please see your financial aid counselor if you have any questions regarding your financial aid and co-ops and/or internships.
