Why do you want to run for the Alumni Board of Directors?
Serving on the Alumni Board is about giving back and helping La Salle thrive. My late brother Jake Topley was also a La Salle student, and being able to support current students would be a meaningful way to honor his memory. Having seen firsthand how competitive the Philadelphia education landscape can be, I want to help La Salle reclaim its position as a top-tier institution. Serving on the board will allow me to create opportunities for students and help strengthen the university’s reputation. Whether that’s through strategic support, connecting students with resources, or helping to elevate the school’s visibility.
What activities were you involved in as a student?
During my time at La Salle, I was heavily involved in intramural sports, with basketball being my primary focus. In a city known for its competitive collegiate athletics, I helped lead our team to a City 6 Championship by beating Temple, Drexel, and Villanova at the Palestra. It was only the 3rd La Salle City 6 Championship in the tournament’s 40-year history. Our victory embodied the grit and determination that defines both the university and the Philadelphia sports landscape. Participating in intramural basketball taught me valuable lessons about leadership, teamwork, and perseverance – skills that have continued to shape my professional and personal approach to challenges.
How have you remained active or engaged with La Salle as an alum since graduation?
Since graduation, I have maintained a strong connection with La Salle University. I regularly attend university sporting events, particularly basketball and soccer matches, supporting the athletic programs that were central to my student experience. My connection to the university extends beyond personal attendance. My wife, a former captain of the La Salle women’s soccer team that won the program’s first A10 championship, continues our family’s commitment to the university’s athletic legacy. I have also participated in La Salle Charter dinners, demonstrating my ongoing commitment to the university’s community. One of my most significant contributions has been through a charity established in my late brother’s memory. This scholarship program supported Sigma Phi Lambda students, providing tuition assistance to two students who meet specific criteria. Additionally, I was honored to speak to the Sigma Phi Lambda group about the importance of love and perseverance, sharing insights that might inspire and support current students. These ongoing efforts reflect my deep respect for La Salle and my commitment to supporting its students and community.

As a proud La Salle graduate, I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to contribute to the Alumni Association Board of Directors. My background in financial planning, entrepreneurship, and community engagement has provided me with valuable skills in leadership, strategic planning, and relationship building. Additionally, my experience organizing events, supporting philanthropic initiatives, and fostering meaningful connections would allow me to contribute meaningfully to the Board’s mission. I am passionate about giving back to the La Salle community and supporting its continued growth and success. Thank you for considering my application.
