Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner

The recently approved Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Program prepares nurse practitioner students to provide a full range of primary care services to the adult population across the adult-older adult spectrum. This specialty emphasis is on the prevention, diagnosis, and management of both acute episodic and chronic stable illnesses and diseases. Although not setting specific, clinical rotations will primarily occur in outpatient community settings. This will include hours in a variety of settings such as private and affiliated medical practices, nurse-managed community clinics, urgent care, assisted living and retirement communities, and rehabilitation centers. Upon graduation, students will become eligible to take the new Adult-Gerontology Primary Care National Certification Exam and seek state certification and employment as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with prescriptive authority. New graduates will become a valuable primary care provider and interdisciplinary team member as well as help meet the unique needs of the adult and older adult population.

This track requires a total of 512 clinical hours. The clinical experiences are in NUR 665 and NUR 666.
