Who must apply for graduation?

All students must apply for graduation. Applying to graduate alerts the University that you will be completing your requirements and wish to have your degree conferred (whether you attend commencement ceremony or not). No student will graduate/receive a degree without applying to do so.

I have a hold, can I still graduate?

Yes. However, outstanding holds will prohibit the release of your diploma until all obligations are satisfied.

I earned my degree during the summer term (or fall term), when do I receive my diploma?

Students who complete their degree requirements in the summer will have their degree conferred on August 31. The degree is posted to the student’s academic transcript. Diplomas are ordered on August 31, and will arrive in the University Registrar Office approximately 6 weeks after this date. Graduates will receive a letter, via mail, announcing the arrival of their diploma and how it may can be obtained.

Students who complete their degree requirements in the fall will have their degree conferred on January 15. The degree is posted to the student’s academic transcript. Diplomas are ordered on January 15, and will arrive in the University Registrar Office approximately 6 weeks after this date. Graduates will receive a letter, via mail, announcing the arrival of their diploma and how it can be obtained.

August and January graduates are invited to attend the Commencement ceremony in May. These graduates will receive commencement information early spring.

Please note: all outstanding obligations to the University must be cleared before a graduate may receive their diploma.

Why is my diploma in another language?

For over 140 years, La Salle has had the prestigious tradition of printing our diplomas in Latin. The students name and degree are printed in English. The translation of the diploma may be found on the protective envelope in which the diploma is distributed.

How do I obtain my diploma?

Diplomas will be available 6-8 weeks after degrees are conferred and will be mailed to your home address on file.

Students must update their mailing address in the portal. Current or former University employees must contact payables@lasalle.edu to update their addresses.

Outstanding financial obligations to the University may prohibit the release of your diploma. Please contact the Registrar’s Office with any questions.

What is the graduation fee and what does it cover?

The graduation fee is a one-time fee charged to all degree applicants and is payable prior to graduation. The fee is nonrefundable. This fee covers the cost of degree audits and evaluations, the diploma, and shipping.

I don’t plan on attending the ceremony, do I still have to pay the fee?

Yes, this fee is required even if you choose not to attend the graduation ceremony.  All graduates are listed in the Commencement Program and all graduates must pay the fee, regardless of attendance at the ceremony. It pays for degree audits and evaluations as well as the diploma and shipping charges.

Students who participate in the commencement ceremony will still pay the costs to purchase or rent regalia. Regalia costs have been reduced from previous years.
